Grigol (Gigla) Chikovani, born on 28, August, 1960 in Tbilisi, Georgia, graduated Tbilisi public school № 47 and Tbilisi State Veterinary Institute qualifying as a veterinary engineer. He has studied economics too. Gigla is the executive director of the “Khidmsheni” corporation at present.
Gigla has studied music at the same time graduating the violin class at Tbilisi № 1 music school. He plays the guitar and the piano skillfully. He is considered one of the best amateur guitar players in Georgia. Gigla has also composed pieces of music on the poems by the famous Georgian poetess Ana Kalandadze one of which, “Khatebtan”, is the most famous and popular. Gigla also performs songs together with his friends. He is one of the trio ensemble with G. Korkotashvili and V. Meskhi. The trio participates in various concerts and TV and radio programs.
Gigla’s distinguishing traits are his sociability and good sense oh humour combined with his gift for music that determine the love he is embraced by in the wide circle of his friends and acquaintances, both Georgian and foreign.
Gigla started singing very young. The six-year-old was on the stage together with his sister Marika and, accompanied by their father on the piano, they sang both Georgian and foreign songs. They were prize-winners of many school and republican competitions. Together with other children, they performed in concerts and programs broadcast by the Moscow central TV channel. As a child Gigla sang the first part with his timbre both strong and beautiful. In the family ensemble he sings the second and the third parts (baritone) and the fourth part together with his father Zurab when the song is a four-part one, performed without any musical accompaniment.
Gigla’s wife Eka Kuprashvili is an architect, keen on painting and singing. The couple have a repertoire of their own. The couple will soon have their second child. Their son, the fifteen-year-old Giorgi is doing his 9th year at “Momavlis Skola” school. He was given primary education in music (the piano). Giorgi has been singing since his young years and together with the family ensemble he has participated in a number of TV programs. As a little boy he was on a concert tour in the city of Zonguldak, Turkey together with the “Imereti” ensemble formed by his grandfather Zurab. Giorgi also was a choirboy in a folk song choir.
Giorgi goes in for sports training in different kinds of sports at various times. He is especially successful in skiing being in the top ten of young amateur skiers of Georgia and a prize-winner of a number of tournaments, including the first prize and the gold medal.
